With time and use, the soil under your grass can become hard or “compacted”. This prevents further root development, poor water conduction, and lack of oxygen. This means that grass roots can not spread and expand. If these roots can not grow, then the overall health and vitality of your lawn will suffer. This produces a weaker, off-color lawn that is more susceptible to other problems.
The solution is core aeration with seed. This is a process where a plug, or core, or foil is lifted out of the ground. This allows more oxygen to enter the soil which is good for the grass. It promotes a deeper root system with more lateral root development. Introducing new seed at this time is recommended. With the added oxygen and good fertile soil, the new seed will germinate quickly and grow stronger.
FALL is by far the BEST time to do this. There should be little to no crabgrass to contaminate the seed bed. Cooler nights and the potential for rain will help the new roots and seed grow stronger and thicker.
We are very thorough when we aerate and seed. We would be happy to provide you with details.
